A file is one of the most useful tools you can have in your toolbox or workshop. Sometimes in less time than it takes to get it out, plug in and spark up the grinder, you can clean up the edge of a tool or workpiece in just a few minutes. It is one of the best tools to give you a real feel for the material you are working on. If there is a subtle bump, dent or burr, you know that you will feel it and smooth it out with more confidence.

Metalworking, woodworking or plastic-working – Bahco’s range of quality files are best to reshape, smoothen or sharpen the task at hand. In addition, these files can be used to maintain your tools, meaning that you can keep your electric saw blades sharper for longer or give a surface a well-needed mirror finish. Bahco files have a narrow, pointed end called the “tang”, and are available with a Bahco ERGO™ handle, or non-handled, and all the files have a hardened steel surface and a series of sharp, parallel teeth.
Which file to use depends on the work material and the desired finish. Bahco files are divided into four main categories: Engineering Files, Needle Files, Sharpening Files and Milled/PANSAR® Files, and cater differently to different work materials.
The “Toothing” of a file can vary in a number of ways. The most common cuts are; Single, Double, Öberg, Diagonal, Milled, PANSAR® and Rasp. The coarseness is then given in the number of whole teeth per centimetre, whole teeth per inch or per centimetres squared. There’s the degrees of coarseness, Bahco’s most common degrees are; Bastard, Second and Smooth.
